Robert Jones Mechanical Corkscrews.

Posted: 04/16/2012

It may not be common knowledge but there are at least three mechanical corkscrews manufactured by Robert Jones & Sons, 105 Cheapside, Birmingham. All three corkscrews are very sought after by collectors. It is interesting that there are variations of all of these Jones corkscrews.

Jones 1 is the most common of the three and can be found in various forms, with several different markings to the barrels as well as two forms of spikes, one being triangular in cross section and the other circular with a flat to the inside surface.

ROBERT JONES 2.

Jones 2 can be found in three forms, again with several different markings to the barrels, as well as three different forms of mechanism.

Robert Jones & Sons manufactured a third mechanical corkscrew a Thomason type corkscrew with a standard Jones badge. The Jones Thomason can be found in several different forms. The most disired examples are found with similar raised decoration to that found on the Jones 2.

The Robert Jones  decorated Thomason is very rare, probably rarer than the Jones 2.

Thanks Steven, I really enjoyed finding out that the Jones Thomason was so rare. And it is lovely. So I included it in my 2012 best 6. So I know you'll like at least one of the 6! Look forward to more articles. Always good reading. (And you spelling can be a bit tragic!)

1 Desirability is very subjective 2 You should use a spell check 3 What are the three different mechanisms you write about? 4 Where is the evidence that the decorated Jones Thomason is probably rarer than the Jones 2, or are you just guessing? 5 The quality of your images is very good
